Large number of herbs on earth lies unexplored in the field of medicine or Science. Trichosanthes cucumerina (snake gourd, viper gourd) is one such plant belonging to the family Cucurbitaceae. It has been used as antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, cytotoxic, antibacterial and against skin allergy. The present aim of the study is to investigate these seeds as antioxidant and antiulcer. Extraction was done by cold maceration method for 72 hours with ethanol. The antioxidant activity was determined by Hydrogen Peroxide free scavenging method. The extract show maximum antioxidant activity 70.23 percentage at 150µg. against ascorbic acid. Qualitative scavenging activity on DPPH radical has been investigated by 1, 1- Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reagent in ethanol which showed yellow coloration on TLC. The extract will be further evaluated for its antiulcer and analgesic activities. The result suggested that Trichosanthes cucumerina seed possesses significant antioxidant potential.
