Hydro-Methenolic extract from bark of Ginkgo biloba were screened for their in vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. The antioxidant activity of hydro-methenolic extract was determined by means of DPPH scavenging activity, scavenging of hydrogen peroxide and reducing power. In the DPPH method, antioxidant present in the plant extract reacted with DPPH, and which is converted to 1, 1-diphenyl-1, 2-picryl hydrazine. The result was expressed as IC50. Ascorbic acid was used as standard and it showed IC50 of 7.5 μg/ml whereas extract of bark of ginkgo biloba showed IC50 of 84 μg/ml. In the scavenging of hydrogen peroxide method Ascorbic acid showed IC50 of 95 μg/ml whereas extract showed IC50 105 μg/ml. The obtained result of absorbance & percent inhibition showed decrease in the concentration of DPPH & H2O2 radicals due to scavenging potential of extract. In reducing power method the reducing power of extract was determined and compared with standard ascorbic acid, increased absorbance with increased concentration signified the increase in reducing power. In-vitro antibacterial activity of Hyro-Methenolic extract were screened against E. Coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa by agar well diffusion method. The extract showed maximum effect at 1600 μg/ml and more potency against Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, and E. coli.
