Gloriosa superba is perennial creeper, herbaceous, stout, climbing herb. It is an important medicinal plant to cure diseases in Asia and Africa.1 Colchicine and Colchicoids are important constituents of this plant, which are very costly and highly demanded by the pharma industries because of excessive use of this plant in diverse number of diseases. The plant is under threatened category. It also faces a low seed set problem, but due to its industrial demand it is now under cultivation. It is necessary to conserve this plant otherwise it will be lost by 2020.2 Phytochemical analyses yielded Flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids and glycosides in aqueous extract. Ethanolic and aqueous extract yielded carbohydrates, phytosterols, fixed oils, fats, saponins, gum, mucilage, phenolic compounds. Alcoholic extract of dried tuber yielded organic acid, dextrose, a hydrocarbon, a fatty alcohol. Various compounds have been isolated from the plant parts mainly tubers and seeds i.e. colchicine, colchicocides (semi-synthetic derivative thiocolchicocides), superbine, glorisine, lumicolchicine, 3-dimethyl colchicine, N-formyldeacetylcolchicine, 1,2-didemethylcolchicine.3 It is one of the important species which is also used for medicinal purpose. Plant is used to cure arthritis, gout, rheumatism, inflammation, ulcer, skin diseases, leprosy, snake bite, purgative, gonorrhoea, infertility, itching, abdominal pain, cancer, piles, and scrofula.4
