The objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), Mannitol on the in vitro dissolution of Cefpodoxime proxetil. Cefpodoxime proxetil molecular inclusion complexes in different ratios (w/w) were prepared using a solvent evaporation method. The in vitro dissolution of pure drug, physical mixtures, and inclusion complexes was carried out. Molecular inclusion complexes of Cefpodoxime proxetil with Mannitol and β-CD, shows considerable increase in the dissolution rate in comparison with the physical mixture and pure drug in 0.1 N HCl and phosphate buffer. The dissolution of drug was found to be significantly increases in acidic pH as compared to the phosphate buffer. In conclusion, the dissolution of Cefpodoxime proxetil can be enhanced by the use of a hydrophilic carrier (β-CD, Mannitol) by preparing molecular inclusion complex.
