EDITORIAL

Medicinal plants are gaining huge amount of research interest as well as customer interest. So it becomes all the more important to validate their efficacy claims both in animals as well as in humans. Their safety must be established. In this issue we bring you a very a manuscript on anti-diabetic efficacy of Fenugreek seed extract. Different mechanisms has been proposed for its antidiabetic activity like presence of amino acid 4-hydroxyisoleucine which has insulin tropic activity in isolated pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain compounds which inhibit sodium-dependent intestinal glucose uptake and have anti-inflammatory properties and inhibition of amylase enzyme along decease of rate of gastric emptying. It is all the more important to validate such medicinal herbs and plant for their maximum utility in the interest of human health.
Another plant Lawsonia inermis has been evaluated for its cytotoxic potential against EAC cells and human lymphocyte cells respectively.
